Tempering

The raw material used in the manufacture of tempered glass is float glass, which is flat glass made from sand, soda ash, dolomite, lime and recycled glass. Tempered glass is around 4-5 times stronger than float glass. Moreover, in the event of breakage, tempered glass characteristically shatters harmlessly into tiny pieces.

Glass tempering is a glass manufacturing procedure in which cool float glass is first heated to around 650° C and then cooled quickly back down to room temperature. The powerful compression stress imposed on the surface of the glass as a result of this process increases the strength of the glass, enabling it to withstand impacts, bending and temperature fluctuations many times better than ordinary glass.

Before tempering, the glass can be pre-processed in many different ways. The glass can be drilled and notched and its edges ground according to the customer's wishes.

AGP Glassco produces clear safety glass and also safety glass tinted green, bronze and grey. With ceramic painting, many colours of the customer's choice can be painted inseparably into the glass surface. Patterns can be reproduced on the glass using the silk-screen printing technique.

Glass from 3 to 19 mm thick can be tempered. Flat glass can be successfully tempered up to a maximum size of 2.4 x 4.8 metres. According to the requirements of the end product, tempered Tamglass safety glass can either be kept flat or bent to any desired shape during the tempering process.
